International Yoga Day 2018: Yoga Making Healthy People Around the World
In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed to celebrate International Yoga Day on 21 June every year at the United Nations General Assembly, which was gladly accepted. Today, Fourth Yoga Day is being celebrated. The thousands of years old yoga described in the Indian Vedas is making people’s health healthy in the world today. In December 2016, Yoga has been included in UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage category.
The result of Modi’s efforts
After assuming power, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested celebrating International Yoga Day in the first address at the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014. For this, they suggested the date of June 21. The United Nations announced to celebrate December 21, 2014, as International Yoga Day on June 21. For this, 193 member countries have approved.
Why not only on June 21
Prime Minister Modi today told the United Nations a very logical and natural reason behind celebrating Yoga Day on the same day. Actually, June 21 is the longest day in the Northern Goddard. Therefore, in most countries of the world, this day is of great importance. This day is also very beneficial for spiritual actions. According to Indian recognition, Yogi Shiva started teaching yoga science on this day to mankind. After this, he became guru etc.
The proposal passed in 90 days
Of the 193 member countries, 177 countries supported India on the proposal of International Yoga Day. For the first time, they became so co-proponents on a proposal. For the first time, the proposal to declare a day by any country in the United Nations was passed in just 90 days and implemented.
The energy of yoga spread in the world
In the last years of the 19th century, Swami Vivekananda introduced the knowledge of Indian culture, Hinduism, and Vedas to the West. Paramahansa Yogananda taught Kriya Yoga in Boston in 1920. BKS Iyengar from Karnataka started special yoga training from 1937. He is considered the world’s first yoga teacher.
